MUSCAT: Muscat Municipality has signed an agreement to develop a unified digital platform for municipal services across Oman’s governorates, aiming to simplify transactions for businesses and individuals and improve urban planning.

The Unified Municipal System Project will bring services including building permits, lease contracts and other permits onto an integrated platform, supporting efforts to automate procedures and improve coordination between municipalities.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed bin Saeed al Ameri, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, and Talib bin Hamoud al Rashidi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ithca Group, representing the group’s affiliated technology company.

Al Ameri said that the project represented a strategic step towards modernising municipal operations by unifying services across the governorates.

He said the platform would enable users to complete transactions more easily and quickly, improve service quality and delivery, and strengthen the efficiency of municipal operations.

For businesses, the planned integration of municipal services is intended to simplify the procedures needed to obtain permits and complete related transactions. The project also aims to improve coordination and data integration between governorates.

Al Ameri said the initiative would extend beyond service delivery to establish a unified data system supporting decision-making and urban planning.

The system would pave the way for the use of artificial intelligence and other modern technologies to develop services and improve city management, in line with Oman Vision 2040, he added.

The project will use geospatial systems to consolidate municipal data and support more efficient planning and decision-making.

Al Rashidi said the agreement formed part of government efforts to accelerate the digital transformation of services provided by Muscat Municipality and municipalities across Oman’s governorates.

He said the project was expected to bring a significant improvement in government digital services, particularly in the municipal sector. — ONA
